Sonographic Findings of Cavernous Transformation of Portal Vein

Abstract
|
|
|
Reported are 16 cases of cavernous transformation of portal vein diagnosed on US which were verified by the angiography or CT scan.
1. Eight cases of portal vein thrombosis by hepatocellular carcinoma and remaining 8 cases were splenic or portal vein obstructions of unknown etiology.
2. Every case of portal vein thrombosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, tumor thrombus was seen at the itrahepatic portal vein confluent area.
3. Every case of unknown causes of prehepatic obstruction, obstruction site was usually at the splenic vein near the portal vein confluent area.
4. Sonographic findings were multiple serpiginous vascular channels around the thrombosed portal vein or tortuous dilated vascular channels around the pancreas head and porta area with failure of visualization of the extrahepatic portal vein.
